With such an abundance of superb beaches, it is a great pity that the temperature of the North Sea is not equally attractive. However, for our hardier guests, or for those of you more fortunate to be here during a heat wave, I will list the best beaches for swimming or “chilling out!!” plus whatever facilities are available.

Findhorn 50 – 60 minutes drive

Miles of good sand when the tide is out and safe swimming except for the tidal race at the entrance to Findhorn Bay. Toilets in the main Car Parks. Food and Drink available in the village itself 10 –15 minutes walk.

Roseisle 50 minutes drive

Purpose built by Forest Enterprise in the middle of the forest, providing access to miles of sand and dunes. Toilets, BBQ`s, Picnic Tables, Play Equipment and lots of space for games, etc., in an area sheltered from the winds by the dunes and the trees. Safe swimming. Car parking charge.

Hopeman 40 minutes drive

Superb small and quiet beach just east of the harbour. Picnic and BBQ area next to Beach Car Park. Food, drink and toilets in the town. Safe swimming.

Lossiemouth West Beach 30 - 40 minutes drive

Accessed from the west road out of town, down behind the Moray Golf Club House A pleasant ,sandy beach, with very shallow safe swimming. No facilities on beach.

Lossiemouth East Beach 35 minutes drive

Coming into town from the Elgin side, turn right as soon as you see the river, and park opposite the wooden pedestrian bridge, which you must cross to access the beach. Lots of sand and mostly safe swimming, except by the river mouth. All facilities are in the town.

Strathlene, Buckie 10 minutes drive

An adequate sand and shingle beach, useful for a quick dip! Unfortunately, the magnificent open air seawater pool, built between the wars, has succumbed to the elements, as have all the others along the Moray Firth.

Cullen Beach 15 minutes drive

A magnificent stretch of golden sand, providing safe swimming, with a few rocks here and there. Toilets. Food and drink available in town 5 minutes walk.

Cullen Harbour 15 minutes drive

An enclosed sandy harbour, very popular with local children.

Sandend 25 minutes drive

Another great beach much loved by locals with safe swimming. Great surf sometimes on the incoming tide used by surfers and canoeists. Food and drink sometimes available by the car park.
There are many, many more beaches both large and small, but I will leave it to the more adventurous of you to seek them out.
