Moray abounds with safe, easy cycling routes on the many Forestry Roads. The Forest Enterprise encourages this activity provided cyclists keep off waymarked walking paths. But, for the real mountain biking enthusiasts, a tremendous amount of work is ongoing in creating trails of varying degrees of difficulty, right up to Black Severe. This admirable project is being overseen by Moray District Forest Enterprise, with much of the work being done by volunteers from the very active clubs in this area.

Virtually all the areas suggested in the Woodland and Coastal sections of this guide are suitable for runs, but I will mention the ones, which have waymarked trails. Maps and up to date information on new routes can be obtained from the Moray District Forest Enterprise Office at Balnacoul, just ¼ mile down the Rothes road from Mosstodloch.

Culbin Forest

9 miles of easy tracks between Cloddymoss Car Park and Nairn East Beach.

Winding Walks, Fochabers

The Whiteash Loopie, a red - difficult route with steep gradients only for experienced riders.

Ordiequish, Fochabers

The Explorer Trail in the woods south of Fochabers and the A96, is a good easy and interesting run marked by blue and red markers.

Ben Aigen Summit Trail

Starting point at the car park just off the A95 Mulben to Craigellachie road (at the moment of writing this road has been closed for 4 months and is likely to remain so until the summer of 2003, due to severe landslides. However access can be made from near Auchroisk Distillery or from Arndilly on the Speyside way.) The red marker trail is 4.5 miles and the blue marker trail is 6 miles. Both these routes are graded red - difficult, with the blue one being very demanding, but worth the effort for the view.
